The rashes that started everything
I had been using disposable pads my entire life. Twenty years without question, without complaint. And then, suddenly, the rashes started.
Not once, not twice. Over and over again, for several months in a row. Always on day three or four of my period, like clockwork. I was too embarrassed to see a doctor — for very obvious reasons — so I did what most of us do. I turned to Google.
One search to get some answers led me down a rabbit hole I was completely unprepared for.
What I found in those pads shocked me
Chemicals. Fragrances. Synthetic fibres. Bleaching agents. All of it sitting against some of the most sensitive skin on your body, for days every month, every cycle.
I had never once suspected the pads themselves could be the problem. But there it was — and I was far from alone. The internet was full of women saying the exact same thing. Women who'd been suffering, assuming it was just part of having periods. Assuming it was normal.
It isn't. And you don't have to just live with it.
So I bought a sewing machine. How hard could it be?
(Spoiler: very, very hard. 😂)
Cloth pads weren't on shelves back then. Nobody was making them nearby, and I had no idea where to start. But I was tired of the rashes and out of other ideas, so I bought a basic machine and figured I'd teach myself.
I watched endless videos. Downloaded so many patterns. YouTube and Facebook groups became my lifeline. And I still couldn't sew a straight line to save my life.
After repeatedly trying and failing, I gave up on the machine entirely and hand-sewed my first pads instead. They were made from my daughter's old cotton dresses, worn towels, and fleece from Spotlight. They weren't pretty. But they worked.
That first cycle changed everything
The rashes stopped immediately. But that wasn't even the biggest thing.
What actually changed when I switched:
- No more rashes — finally, for the first time in months
- Flow felt noticeably lighter
- My cycle felt shorter in duration
- I slept through the night without leaks
- No more midnight panic checks
Many women across the cloth pad community reported the same changes. You're not imagining it. Something shifts — and most people can't fully explain it, but they feel it.
Stay-at-home mum. Former travel consultant. Accidental cloth pad maker.
I had never dreamed I would switch to cloth pads, let alone start a business making them. I just faced something painful, found a solution, and realised too many women were still suffering — thinking it was just part of having periods. Thinking it was normal.
I was very hesitant at first. Skeptical, even. I feared being ridiculed for making something that handles period blood. Something that needed touching and washing. Something we're so conditioned to think of as "gross."
It definitely wasn't easy. But I gathered my courage and started posting in Facebook groups and on Instagram. The response floored me. So many women already looking for alternatives — and almost nobody in Singapore making and selling them. Almost nobody.
A one-woman operation, made with intention
I've now been making custom cloth pads for eight years. Every single pad is cut, sewn, and finished by my hands. Every order is packed by me. Every DM is answered by me. And I genuinely love it.
I don't make them because it's trendy or because sustainability is having a moment. I make them because I know — from ten years of personal experience — what a difference the right cloth pad can make to someone's period. And I want every person I make for to feel that difference too.
Every flow is different, so every pad is made to fit yours.
