Getting Started

How to build your first cloth pad stash without overthinking it

The most common thing that holds people back isn't the washing or the cost — it's not knowing what to actually buy first. Here's exactly how to start smart.

Start smart, not big. Once you know what you reach for most — add more of that.

Don't replace everything at once

The biggest mistake first-timers make is trying to go all-in immediately — buying ten of one type before they've actually worn one through a full cycle. Every body and every flow is different. You genuinely don't know what you'll love until you've lived in them for a month.

Start with a small, mixed set. Wear them for a full cycle. Notice what you keep reaching for. Then build from there. That's how you end up with a stash that actually fits your life.

The starter mix that works for most people

Liners
For light days & spotting
The tail end of your cycle when flow is barely there. Thin, barely noticeable, great for everyday discharge too if you want to use them year-round.
🌿
3–4
Regular Pads
For mid-cycle days
Your everyday workhorse. Normal flow, manageable days. This is usually what people reach for most, so it's worth having a few.
🌸
3–4
Heavy Pads
For your heaviest days
Days one and two when your flow is at full force. More absorbent layers, usually slightly wider. This is where getting the right pad matters most.
💧
1–2
Overnight Pads
For sleeping
Longer front-to-back coverage so you can move in your sleep without worry. Even if your flow is light, overnight is its own category.
🌙
10–12
pads is enough to get through most cycles without doing laundry mid-period. That's your target for a complete first stash. Once you know what you use most, add more of that — not more variety.

You'll know it's time when…

When any of those things start happening, don't push through. That's your body telling you the stash needs adjusting — and adjusting is always easier than you think.
